The world-famous British singer, songwriter, and actress arrived in The Old Theatre almost directly from New York’s Carnegie Hall, where she took part – along with other star performers – in a tribute to The Rolling Stones. In Lublin, she recited a selection of sonnets by William Shakespeare, who – as Faithfull claims – had been her closest friend and companion ever since she could remember. All her life, she had studied, read, and interpreted the works of the master:
Shakespeare’s sonnets are universal, they appeal to readers no matter what their age, gender, or tastes, but they always adjust to the sensitivity of the audiences.
Marianne Faithfull’s recitations were accompanied by Vincent Segal’s atmospheric cello. The performance was made available for a larger audience on an outdoor screen in the Po Farze square in the Old Town.
