The famed film Pépé le Moko (dir. Julien Duvivier, 1937) was screened at Rialto on 27 June 1939. A certain Kandyd [Candide], pseudonymous reviewer of Myśl Narodowa, expressed an encouraging view of the film:

What must be admired here is first and foremost the excellent work of the cinematographer. Ever watchful, he does not rest for a moment, circling above the mise-en-scène. He has his own style, with not a trace of banality, entirely free of any aesthetisation. His work is entirely in concert with the effort of the director. What is an ordinary crime-drama story, based on the memoirs of a former police officer, is told in an excellent cinematic manner. It is contemporary through and through, avoiding the facile shallows of the cinematic cliché, sober and expressive in its form.

For the Rialto cinema, the second half of the 1930s was a time of stability and attractive repertoire. It screened many films that are now considered classics.
