In the 1960s, Lublin was twice visited by journalists from the trade magazine of cinema technology Kinotechnik. The journalists reported on the condition of the cinema theatres in the region and in Lublin, meting out both praise and criticism. In 1961, Wiesław Stradowski wrote also about the Old Town Cinema, calling it “an unlucky little townhouse”:
There used to be a little theatre here. Now, it’s a cinema that seats two hundred people. A ground-level auditorium and a balcony with boxes, and a peculiar musty smell in the air. […] Objectively speaking, the Old Town Cinema could use a renovation, and an extensive one at that, but for now there is no point undertaking it, as there are reportedly plans to restore the venue to Melpomene after a major reconstruction and extension.
These were neither the first nor the last designs for the building in Jezuicka which prevented it from being properly maintained.
