The Old Town Cinema came to an end on Thursday 3 December 1981. On that day, at 5 pm, the cinema screened the Romanian comedy The Oil, the Baby, and the Transylvanians (dir. Dan Pița, 1981), and at 7.15pm it showed the American medical thriller Coma (dir. Michael Crighton, 1978). Critic Jerzy Schönborn reviewed the thriller in the Film magazine:
The word ‘coma’ comes from the Greek ‘comma’ – snippet, and means a state of deep unconsciousness and lack of reaction to external stimuli. But the use of the word in the title of Michael Crichton’s film does not describe the reactions of the viewers. Far from it: the film is a skilfully executed thriller and provides more than enough tension even for the seasoned cinemagoer.
Fin. At the end of 1981, the theatre and cinema in Jezuicka fell into a coma for years. But delving into the history of the building provides more than enough tension for those who embark on it.
