1822–2022
The first owner of the 11 Rynek lot, and the initiator of the idea to construct a permanent theatre for Lublin, was Kacper Drewnowski. The venue was built and operated by his son-in-law, Łukasz Rodakiewicz. He passed the enterprise on to his daughter Julia and her husband Romuald Makowski, and the building remained in the hands of the Makowski family until the early 1990s. Although the site was formally private property, the cinema operating at the venue was run by state institutions of various names and remits: the Regional Board of Cinemas, the Voivodeship Board of Cinemas, the Regional Film Distribution Company. In 1994, the building was purchased from State Treasury by the Galeria na Prowincji Foundation, which looked after it up to 2004. Since 2007, Teatr Stary has been owned by the city of Lublin.
