1997–2011
The process of restoring the Old Town theatre building to the city gained steam in 2007, when the city authorities took ownership of the premises. Revitalisation, it was decided, would be the way.
This extraordinary, even on a worldwide scale, undertaking was from its beginnings co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. The expense of the renovation came to around 25 million zlotys, of which as much as 60% was contributed the European Regional Development Fund.
The total capacity, and the usable area, of the building almost doubled; two below-ground levels were added, the façade was rebuilt, a foyer was re-established, all surviving furnishings and stage machinery were renovated, three-part trap door was installed, as was state-of-the-art sound and light equipment.
In 2012, The Old Theatre in Lublin was ready to resume original programming of artistic and cultural events.
