The newest chapter in the history of the theatre building in Lublin’s Old Town began almost exactly 190 years after it first opened its door to the audience. On 11 March 2012, the concert of flamenco virtuoso José Fernández Torres Tomatito marked the formal inauguration of The Old Theatre’s activity as an interdisciplinary institution of culture of the City of Lublin. The formal concert, attended by many illustrious guests including the then President of the Republic of Poland Bronisław Komorowski, was broadcast live on TVP Kultura and rebroadcast on TVP2, Channel 2 of Poland’s state television broadcaster. It reached an audience of 450,000 viewers.
The series of events celebrating the opening of The Old Theatre continued until 4 April. Organised jointly with the City of Lublin, the events included performances by Yurii Andrukhovych, Marianne Faithfull, Krystyna Janda, Włodek Pawlik, Stanisław Radwan, Tomasz Stańko, Robert Więckiewicz, and Mariusz Wilczyński.
